I just had to try out my new Canon DSLR in macro mode. This is a daylily from my flower garden in June!

We have had sweltering heat here in central Oklahoma! I took this picture the other day when it was 113 degrees outside. The bluebirds have built a nest in my flower garden near the base of a tree.  They have a birdbath nearby and also a birdfeeder.  I guess they feel safe here! I've never seen birds do this before, so I thought I would share it with anyone that may be interested!

Change in Plans

August has been extremely hot with temperatures above 100 degrees, several days in a row.  My garden is hot and dry. It seems there is not enough water to parch it's thirst.  It doesn't help that I have injured my ankle and will be non-weight bearing for 6 more weeks.  Surgery was a week ago, today.

We've been keeping busy, though. Last week, my husband and I saw a newscast that a local children's baseball team had been embezzled out of  money that was to be used for trophies and an end of the year banquet. We did a little research and decided to make plaques for the kids and present them at the end of this month.  We are so excited to be able to bring some cheer to the kids and be part of their special day.  The plaques should be finished by the end of next week, and I hope to post a picture of them soon.

New Flower Bed

I have been working very hard to add new flowerbeds to my five acres. This is one of the latest additions. It is filled mostly with different varieties of hosta, lamium, and periwinkle annuals to fill in. I also have a new clematis which is still very small at the bottom of the trellis. Making new flower gardens is a lot of hard work, but is so rewarding!
